The Ram Singh Memorial National Animal Welfare Award is a humble tribute to the late Shri Ram Singh Ji, a compassionate advocate of animal rights and grassroots social worker, whose life was dedicated to the cause of voiceless beings. Instituted by Pashudhan Praharee under the aegis of AgroVet Research and Development Foundation (ARDF), this national-level competition aims to raise awareness, generate ideas, and recognize efforts in the field of animal welfare, protection, and sustainable coexistence.

The Ram Singh Memorial National Animal Welfare Award – 2025 has been instituted by Pashudhan Praharee, under the aegis of AgroVet Research & Development Foundation (ARDF), Livestock Institute of Training & Development (LITD), and Goel Vet Pharma, to recognize and felicitate individuals and institutions for their outstanding contributions in the field of animal welfare in India.

There are two types of Award under this competition

Category-1:- Ram Singh Memorial National Animal Welfare  Excellence Award-2025

( Selected through National-Level Article Writing Competition)

Category-2:- Ram Singh Memorial Jeevdaya Puraskar 2025
(Selected through direct Nomination For Outstanding Contribution to Animal Welfare in India)

This prestigious award is presented every year on 29th July, commemorating the death anniversary of Late Shri Ram Singh, a multi-faceted personality, visionary thinker, 1962, 1965 & 1971 war veteran, and a revered figure in the Indian cooperative and legal landscape.

Through this annual article writing competition, we invite veterinary professionals, students, animal lovers, NGOs, and animal welfare activists across India to pen their thoughts, experiences, and innovative ideas to contribute to the national movement of animal protection and One Health.

This year’s competition coincides with World Zoonoses Day (6th July) and continues the legacy of promoting scientific animal welfare practices, policy discourse, and public awareness.

In this spirit of empathy, dedication, and tireless service, the Ram Singh Memorial Animal Welfare Award was instituted to honor individuals and organizations making outstanding contributions to the care and well-being of animals in India.

📖 A Tribute to Late Shri Ram Singh

Late Shri Ram Singh

Shri Ram Singh was born in 1940 in Mayaram Kheda village, Fatehpur district, Uttar Pradesh. A true patriot, he served the Indian Air Force and played a significant role in three major wars (1962, 1965 & 1971). For his service, he was honoured with Seva Medal, Sangram Medal, Pancham Star, and Rajat Jayanti Medal.

A man of intellect and versatility, he pursued higher education (MA, LLB, Sahitya Ratna) and became a practicing lawyer in 1974. As National Director of IFFCO & KRIBHCO, he brought transformative reforms for farmers and cooperative workers. He also held chairmanship and directorship roles in several prestigious cooperative banks and institutions. Shri Ram Singh left for his heavenly abode on 29th July 1999, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, service, and inspiration.

About the Award

The Ram Singh Memorial Animal Welfare Award is a tribute to the legacy of Late Shri Ram Singh, a staunch advocate of compassion and selfless service towards animals. Instituted under the aegis of the AgroVet Research & Development Foundation (ARDF), this award aims to recognize unsung heroes—be they veterinarians, animal rescuers, caregivers, NGOs, or grassroots volunteers—who have made a significant impact in the field of animal welfare.

Purpose and Vision

The purpose of this award is threefold:

  1. To Recognize – Celebrating individuals and organizations whose contributions have tangibly improved the lives of animals.
  2. To Inspire – Motivating others, especially youth and animal lovers, to engage in welfare practices and community action.
  3. To Create Awareness – Highlighting the urgent need for better policies, awareness, and public participation in animal welfare.

Eligibility and Selection

The award is open to:

  • Veterinary professionals working in rescue, rehabilitation, or animal healthcare.
  • NGOs and animal shelters delivering exemplary welfare services.
  • Paravets, Pashu Sakhis, A-HELP workers, or individual volunteers involved in animal relief, Animal welfare and education.

The selection is made by a distinguished jury of veterinary scientists, welfare activists, and ARDF members after reviewing nominations based on impact, innovation, and commitment.

A Platform for Empowerment

By recognizing the champions of animal welfare, the Ram Singh Memorial Animal Welfare Award serves as a platform to amplify voices working silently across villages, towns, and cities of India. Their work not only ensures animal dignity but contributes to larger goals like One Health, AMR prevention, livelihood improvement, and community awareness.

    • Articles can be submitted in English or Hindi.

    • Word Count: Minimum 1000 words and maximum 2000 words.
    • File Format: MS Word .
    • Font: Times New Roman / Mangal(for Hindi), Font size 12, 1.5 line spacing.

To honour and recognize the unwavering dedication and remarkable contributions of individuals, NGOs, animal lovers, veterinary para-professionals (like Pashu Sakhis, A-HELP, CAHWs), and community workers who have gone above and beyond in the service of animals, especially in challenging and underserved areas of India.

📋 Eligibility Criteria:

  1. Nominee must be:
    • An individual, NGO, or community-based organization working in the domain of animal welfare, rescue, rehabilitation, community healthcare, or rights advocacy.
    • Actively engaged in animal welfare activities for a minimum of 3 years.
  2. Open to:
    • Animal lovers and activists
    • NGOs and voluntary animal welfare organizations
    • Community Animal Health Workers (CAHWs), Paravets, Pashu Sakhis, A-HELPs, etc.
    • Veterinary para-professionals involved in community animal healthcare or rescue.
  3. Preference will be given to:
    • Those working in rural, tribal, or underserved areas.

वरिष्ठ राजनीतिज्ञ, कुशल अधिवक्ता, सहकारिता आंदोलन में राष्ट्रीय ख्याति प्राप्त, उन्मुक्त विचारक, महान समाजसेवी एवं बहुमुखी प्रतिभा संपन्न राम सिंह का जन्म सन 1940 में शिवरात्रि के दिन उत्तर प्रदेश के जनपद फतेहपुर के मलवाॅ  ब्लॉक के अंतर्गत ग्राम मयाराम खेड़ा मजरे कोटिया में हुआ था। 3 सितंबर आप सन् 1957 को भारतीय वायुसेना में भर्ती हुए। इन्होंने सन् 1962 ,1965 एवं 1971 के युद्धों में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका अदा की। आपको सेवा पदक ,संग्राम पदक, पंचम स्टार, रजत जयंती पदक सहित कई पदको से सम्मानित किया गया। भारतीय वायुसेना बैंगलोर की हॉकी टीम के सदस्य भी रहे। नौकरी के दौरान आपने M.A, L.L.B ,साहित्य रत्न की परीक्षाएं उत्तीर्ण की  एवं नौकरी के पश्चात  सन्  1974 से वकालत करने लगे।

वर्ष 1987 से 1989 तक इफको (इंडियन फार्मर्स फर्टिलाइजर्स कोऑपरेटिव लिमिटेड) क्रभको(कृषक भारती कोऑपरेटिव लिमिटेड) के राष्ट्रीय निदेशक रहे। इफको एवं कृभको में इन्होंने किसानों एवं कर्मचारियों के हित के लिए महत्वपूर्ण सुधार  किये ।देश के सबसे पुराने सहकारी बैंक डिस्टिक कोऑपरेटिव बैंक फतेहपुर(District co-operative Bank Fatehpur)के लगभग 10 वर्ष अध्यक्ष  रहे तथा अनेक राष्ट्रीय एवं अंतर्राष्ट्रीय स्तर की कई शीर्षस्थ सहकारी संस्थाओं के निदेशक /प्रतिनिधि रहे एवं कई सहकारी संस्थाओं की स्थापना की। भारत सरकार द्वारा इन्हें सहकारिता के क्षेत्र में अभूतपूर्व योगदान हेतु सम्मानित किया गया। सन् 1989 एवं 1992 में तत्कालीन भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस पार्टी से बिंदकी विधानसभा जनपद फतेहपुर से विधानसभा का चुनाव भी लड़ा।

29 जुलाई सन 1999 में इनका निधन हो गया जिससे सहकारिता का एक स्तंभ धराशाही हो गया एवं सहकारिता आंदोलन के एक युग का अंत हो गया।
