Healthy Paws Jaipur: Student Wing of the Veterinary Association of India Leads Rabies Vaccination Drive for Community Dogs

On 14–15 March 2026, nearly 60 dedicated volunteers from the Student Wing of the Veterinary Association of India (VAI), Jaipur successfully organized the “Healthy Paws Jaipur” Rabies Vaccination & Collar Drive, vaccinating around 150 community dogs against rabies in Prem Nagar, Chetak Vihar Colony, Green City, Mangal Vihar Colony, and Goner Road areas of Jaipur. The vaccinated dogs were also fitted with identification collars, promoting responsible community dog management and public health awareness.

This initiative was not just a vaccination drive but a significant step towards rabies prevention, animal welfare, and safeguarding public health.

The entire program was led with remarkable dedication and leadership by Ms. Ashita, whose commitment, coordination, and inspiring leadership brought together a motivated team of veterinary students. Under her guidance, the students carried out this noble mission with great enthusiasm, compassion, and professionalism. Their work truly reflects the spirit and responsibility of the next generation of veterinary professionals committed to animal welfare and community health.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Dr. C. S. Sharma, Dean, Apollo College of Veterinary Medicine (ACVM), Jaipur, for his encouragement and support in making this initiative possible. Special appreciation also goes to Dr. L. Geetha Priya (First Woman Elected Member of VCI), Dr. Ramanna Reddy (VCI Member), and Col. Dr. A. S. Rathore (Advisor, VAI) for motivating and supporting the students in this meaningful activity.

A heartfelt thanks and deep appreciation to Raksha NGO and its dedicated members for their valuable collaboration and support in implementing this impactful community initiative.

This drive demonstrates that when veterinary students, academic institutions, and civil society organizations work together, the goal of a Rabies-Free India can truly become achievable.

I sincerely appeal to veterinary students across India to actively participate in such initiatives related to rabies vaccination, animal welfare, and public health awareness. These efforts are not only about protecting animals but also about saving human lives and strengthening the One Health approach.

I also request Deans and faculty members of veterinary colleges across India to encourage and facilitate such community-based programs, enabling students to gain practical experience while serving society.

The Veterinary Association of India (VAI) remains committed to supporting and organizing similar initiatives in the future through its Student Wing across the country, contributing towards the national mission of Rabies-Free India and the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047.
