JKDFA Raises Voice for Dairy Farmers at SKUAST Kashmir: A Vision for a Self-Reliant Cooperative Dairy Ecosystem

JKDFA Strengthens Dairy Farmers’ Voice at SKUAST Kashmir Convention
In Esteemed Presence of Hon’ble Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh Ji, Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, GoI

Jammu & Kashmir Dairy Farmers Association (JKDFA) proudly participated in the Dairy Convention at SKUAST Kashmir on 2nd July 2025, graced by Hon’ble Union Minister Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh Ji, Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying.

Led by President Sandeep Singh Chib, Dr. Shahid (Kashmir Division President), State Secretary Sardar Jasvinder Singh Ji, and Media & Publicity Secretary Vikas Jolly, the JKDFA delegation showcased a diverse range of dairy products and by-products from its farmer members. The Association’s stall highlighted initiatives aimed at empowering dairy farmers across J&K.

During the convention, the JKDFA delegation had an in-depth discussion with the Hon’ble Minister, presenting their innovative cooperative model that eliminates middlemen, ensures direct market access, and guarantees fair pricing to farmers.

A detailed memorandum of key issues and policy recommendations was submitted to the Hon’ble Minister, which included the following major demands:


Key Demands & Recommendations:

  1. Subsidy Support: Financial aid for procurement of milk processing and chilling equipment for farmer associations.

  2. 🧑‍🌾 Farmer Representation: Inclusion of 2–3 grassroots farmer leaders in the Kisan Board for policy discussions.

  3. 🛑 Monitoring Market Monopolies: Establishment of a government body to curb exploitative practices.

  4. 📞 Improved Departmental Coordination: Timely support and communication from the State Animal Husbandry Department.

  5. 🚫 Reopening HADP Scheme: Immediate resumption of the HADP scheme, which has been stalled for four months.

  6. 🐄 Municipal Dairy Protection: Relief measures for dairy farmers operating within municipal limits.

  7. 📝 Ease of Cooperative Formation: Simplification of registration processes and timely subsidy disbursal.

  8. 🐐 Local Animal Procurement: Permission for livestock purchase from local markets under subsidy to reduce logistics burden.

A self-reliant cooperative dairy ecosystem in Jammu & Kashmir that ensures fair returns, dignity, and sustainability for small and marginal dairy farmers.

The interaction was constructive and inspiring, with the Hon’ble Minister assuring his support. JKDFA is optimistic that these pressing concerns will be addressed promptly.
