Dr (Prof.) Indramani Nath: A legend wildlife vet of India
It’s not easy to be a wild life vet especially when you are self trained. Dr Indramani Nath.. Professor and Head Dept of Surgery and Radiology at Bhubaneswar..Odisha is a self trained wildlife Vet.. Since childhood he was inspired to control elephants and bears by seeing lots crop damage being done in his native village..Hati Bari (garden of elephants). After his graduation in Veterinary Science from Odisha Vety College in 1986 he did Masters..1989 and Phd ..2002 in surgery from his alma mater and chose to work in his field of interest…Wild life. He started providing health care to wild animals of different zoos and forests from his PG period itself. In odisha he is the most sought after person in case of human animal conflict. He is visiting expert at Similipal Tiger Reserve and all sanctuaries of his state for capture and treatment of tigers ..bears.. elephants..snakes etc. In some newspapers headlines cases he was the person who controlled killer elephants..”Nandan” and “Shankar” and captured a leopard from Bhubaneswar airport. He has published more than 150 papers on wildlife and regularly contributes to wildlife yearbook. In his state he is expert member of elephant cell..Tiger resolution programme..Health committee of Nandan Kanan zoo..Anti depredation cell of forest dept..Olive Ridley Turtle Conservation Park etc. He has been honoured by Association of Indian Zoo and Wild Life Veterinarians..by several Govt and Non Govt Organisations ..and Indian Society for Veterinary Surgery(ISVS). He and his team ..several being students ..Of Department of Surgery and Radiology have won 10 gold medals and 15 appreciations (second best) in symposia of ISVS. Congratulations to him and his team.
