Prolapse in commercial layers and Breeders.

1.Prolapse vent in chickens is a condition in which the lower part of a hen’s oviduct turns inside out and protrudes through the vent.

2. prolapse has predisposal factor ie. which are overcrowding,

3. low levels of salt.

4. Less calcium,phosphorus in feed.

5. Poor development of the pelvice as a result of low levels of estrogen levels in circulation due to poor nutrition which is not balanced.

 

Preventive measures & Treatment:

6. Do not exceed 16 hours light duration (better 15 hours). Also reduce light intensity (maximum 40 lux in open house, 20-30 lux in environment control house) to control prolapse.

7. Supplement Vitamin C @ 1 g/l drinking water in morning hours.

8. Add salt in drinking water at 1 gram per litter to manage the resultant pecking behaviours..

9.Decrease energy level as fat is increased in muscular layer which weakens the muscles and ultimately prolapsed occurs .

10. Use citric acid to dissolve inorganic as well as organic calcium through feed supplements.

11. Citric acid 0.30% in feed or water will increase non specific immunity and especially against New Castle disease in vaccinated birds.
