Saluting Kent’s Bravery: All About 6-year-old Indian Army Dog Who Attained Martyrdom

Kent was from 21 Army Dog unit and was leading a group of soldiers on the trail of fleeing terrorists when she came under hostile firing and attended martyrdom.

Indian Army dog ‘Kent’ made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty as she laid down her life while saving the life of an Indian Army jawan during an anti-terrorist operation in the Rajouri district of Jammu. The six-year-old female labrador attained martyrdom while Keeping up with the highest traditions of the Army.

All about Kent

Kent, a canine was posted in Indian Army on May 23, 2018, and was a tracker specialist. The six-year-old was part of 8 counter-terror operations, and 8 anti-terror operations in the first year of her service. She belonged to the 21 Army Dog unit and was leading a group of soldiers on the trail of fleeing terrorists when she came under hostile firing while shielding her handler. She succumbed at the scene in Rajouri after 4 years of service in the Indian Army. Kent was at the forefront of ‘Operation Sujaligala’

Indian Army bids final goodbye to martyred dog Kent

The Indian Army officers and Jammu and Kashmir police performed the last rights of the six-year-old animal soldier at the Army’s official base in the region. Soldiers wrapped Kent in the Tricolour, paid floral tribute and chanted slogans in her honour. DIG of Poonch-Rajouri range Haseeb Mughal, 14th sector RR commandant Shaumit Patnaik and other animal soldiers paid their respects to Kent.

Elaborating on the brave dog in an exclusive conversation with Republic, a senior Army official said, “Kent was leading a column of soldiers on the trail of fleeing terrorists. It came down under heavy hostile fire. While shielding its handler, it laid down its own life in the best traditions of the Indian Army,” he added. Additional Director General of Police, Mukesh Singh, said one terrorist and an Army jawan were killed in the encounter that broke out in the Narllah area of the Rajouri district in the Jammu region.
