Steps by Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying  to Boost Potential of Livestock and Dairying Sector

There is huge potential in livestock and dairying sector which has been continuously growing at Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 7.93% during 2014-15 to 2020-21 (at constant prices) contributed by subsection of the Livestock Sector such as Dairy, Bovine, Poultry, Goatery/Piggery etc. Further, livestock sector has contributed around 30% during the year 2020-21 in total agriculture and allied sector GVA (at constant prices). Around 8 crore households are employed in the animal husbandry and dairying sector.

The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Govt. of India is implementing various schemes to supplement the efforts of the States/UTs across the country for promotion and development of the animal husbandry and dairying sector which helps to increase the employment opportunities in the field of animal husbandry and dairying directly as well as indirectly such as:

 

    1. Rashtriya Gokul Mission,
    2. National Programme for Dairy Development,
    3. Dairy Processing and Infrastructure Development Fund,
    4. Supporting Dairy Cooperatives and Farmer Producer Organizations engaged in dairy activities
    5. National Livestock Mission,
    6. Livestock Health and Disease Control
    7. Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund
    8. National Animal Disease Control Programme
    9. Livestock Census and Integrated Sample Survey

The steps undertaken by Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Govt. of India to increase employment opportunities in animal husbandry and dairy sector and to protect indigenous species are as under:

  1. Establishment of Multi Purpose Artificial Insemination Technicians in Rural India (MAITRIs)
  2. Strengthening of existing Artificial Insemination Network
  3. Nationwide Artificial Insemination Programme
  4. Implementation Modern Reproductive Biotechniques including sex sorted semen, genomics, and In Vitro Fertilization Technology
  5. For employment generation in sheep, goat , pig and poultry sector, National Livestock Mission (NLM) is implementing Entrepreneurship Development Programme to develop the entrepreneur in order to create the forward and backward linkage for the produce available at the unorganized sector and to link with the organized sector.
  6. Breed Multiplication Farm under RGM
  7.   Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund (AHIDF) with the total outlay of Rs. 15000 crore is being implemented for incentivizing investment in Dairy processing & value addition infrastructure, Meat processing & value addition infrastructure and Animal Feed Plant, Breed Multiplication farms and Breed improvement Technology including Technologically assisted Modern Poultry Farms, Setting up of Veterinary Drugs and Vaccine units, Animal Waste to Wealth Management (Agri waste management).
