Yes ladies and gentlemen you read right “Poultry farm feed”everyone who are reading this eagerly wanted to know what is poultry farm feed?So here I can answer you -The food material which can be deliver to the poultry birds which is reared for the economic growth. Ex-Duck, Emu, Quail ,Turkey, Chicken, Ostrich etc. According to the purpose chicken are categorised as “Broiler”and“Layer” Chicken which are reared for meatpurpose are called as broiler and chicken which are reared for egg purpose are called as layers. As we all know that in whole country the farmers from different area, locality had faced a huge loos due to ongoing pandemic which make them unable to pay the loans and forced them to suicide. According to NCRB(National crime Records bureau) report in 2018 the death case which is reported in our country due to suicide by farmers is 10349 but there is a plenty of decline  seen in 2019 that is 10281.This can be further decline by making farmers self sustainable. In context of this, poultry feed farming is best alternative for farmers to become economically stable and self sustainable.

Both broiler and layer require their proper amount of nutritive value for their optimum growth, which is good for the sake of owner followed by farmer. Mutual  relationship could be seen between the owner and farmer(If the feed is good then they can make worthwhile money by selling them to the owner). So here are the nutrition which are prerequisite in the poultry feed

  • Carbohydrate, which is good source for energy.
  • Protein- Lysine, Lactic acid, Methionine etc.
  • Vitamin- Vitamin A, Vitamin D, Vitamin E, Riboflavin, Thiamine etc.
  • Mineral- Calcium, Phosphorus, Magnesium, Zinc, Iron, Copper etc.
  • Water
  • Fat
  • Salt

Sources from which nutrition can be provided

  • Bajra
  • Broken rice
  • Wheat
    • Rice polish
    • Wheat bran
    • Soyabean cake
    • Fish meal
    • Meat meal
    • Barley and many more.
  • As the poultry feed can be provided in four different form-
    • Mash
    • Pellet
    • Crumbs
    • Scratch

The feed which is given to chicken is according to their age, body weight and genetic makeup. Farmers can make different and various feed material as broiler feed can be given according to their age- Pre Starter, Starter, Grower  and Finisher. By this farmers can get many opportunity to make different feed.

Poultry farm feed can be produced by growing maize, soyabean, rice, barley, jowar, ragi, sunflower etc. Farmers are growing/cultivating such a good quality of these crops that’s why India is one of the leading country in the world in poultry feed production. The demand for poultry feed in India today is 58% of total average feed in market which is approximately 22Million tones. So farmers can make a good profit from this. As we all are going through pandemic due tothe “Corona Virus” which causes  rise of  rate of products which can be beneficial for farmers that is input is less and output is more. There are three methods by which poultry feed formulation can be done in home .

    1. Easy feed formulation in general- by Pearson method can be done by farmers.Soyabean maize feed can be formulated for DCP of 18%.Here 9.77 parts of soya for energy 27 parts of maize are required for 100kg of feed-

    Soya=(9.77/36.77) ×100=26.6kg

Maize=(27/36.77) ×100=73.3kg So here 26.6kg of soya and 73.3kg of maize is required to make feed of DCP 18%.Farmers can also take help from local Veterinary officer and KVK(Krishi Vigyan Kendra) which is designed to impart need based and skill oriented vocational training to the farmers. Only by one shot of learning about feed formulation farmers can earn lot of money which will definitely improve the economic condition of farmers.

    1. There is also an alternative which is a new concept it can also be grown “Hydroponic poultry feed”—In this process
    • Firstly take 1kg of maize seed and wash it thoroughly in running water.
    • Clean 1 gram of maize with per litre of bleaching powder and accordingly rest.
    • Now leave maize in cloth bag and leave it for 12 hour
    • sprinkle water for 3-5 times in it
    • Now leave it for 12 hour
    • Sprouts can be seen in that
    • Take it out in a tray and make sure that there is a presence of little holes in traythrough which water will remove
    • Leave it for 2-3 days the Hydroponic feed is ready to feed

This is very advantageous as 1kg of maize seed can produce 6kg of poultry feed.

    • Another method of poultry feed growing which can make farmersearn money are by growing Maggots or Black shoulder fly larvae for poultry feeding.
    • Firstly make a temporary arrangement to grow this maggots which is very cheap .
    • For this farmer require small area, bamboo sticks, and for covering Polythene sheets
    • Polythene sheets can be used to cover the bamboo stick in a such way that it make like a little home for them
    • As the maggots loves the sunlight so more the light more will be the growth
    • Make sure that from the bottom also polythene sheet should be covered
    • The humid conditions should be provided
    • Prepare a prepupae
    • Now within 14 days Flies grows and Start to hatch
    • Prepare a media or small piece of cardboard (attractant) for female those who want to lay egg will be attracted by the smell of food and starts laying.
    • Take out the layed egg
    • Put it in another container after few times they will grow and become maggots
    • Maggots require a little food material to grow those are –organic waste ie market waste, cow dung, Manure, palm waste.
    • This organic material are very cheap for so farmers can grow this maggots which is rich in protein.
